RBI reviewing framework that can help determine appropriate level of risk provisions, surplus distribution
The central bank is currently reviewing its economic capital framework, last updated in 2019, which determines risk provisions and surplus distribution. This revision, due in August 2024, will consider recommendations from an expert committee. The RBI has maintained a 6.5% contingent risk buffer as of March 31, 2024.
